Discover fun ways to prepare tortillas!
1. PARMESAN CRISPS:
Brush POM tortillas lightly with olive oil. Sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and cut each into 8 wedges. Place on a baking sheet. Bake at 450°F (230°C) for about 8 minutes or until crisp and golden. Cool.
2. CAJUN CRACKERS:
Brush POM SMART tortillas with lime juice. Sprinkle with cajun seasoning. Cut each into 8 wedges. Place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 7 minutes. Turn over. Brush again with lime juice and sprinkle lightly with seasoning. Bake 8 minutes longer or until crisp and golden. Cool.
3. QUICK CROUTONS:
Use tortillas to make delicious croutons for soups and salads. Brush POM tortillas with melted butter. Sprinkle generously with greek seasoning or parmesan cheese. Cut each into 4 strips lengthwise then cut each strip crosswise into ½" (1cm) strips. Place on a baking sheet. Bake at 450°F (230°C) for about 8 minutes or until crisp and golden. Cool.
4. SESAME SQUARES:
Brush POM tortillas with melted butter. Sprinkle with white sesame seeds or a combination of white and black sesame seeds. Cut each tortilla into 8 strips lengthwise then into 8 strips crosswise to make squares. Place on a baking sheet. Bake at 450°F (230°C) for about 8 minutes or until crisp and golden. Cool.
5. QUICK GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH:
Lay slices of your favourite cheese on half of a POM tortilla. Spread other half with dijon or honey mustard, mayonnaise or ketchup. Moisten edges with water and fold tortilla in half over the cheese. Cook in a lightly buttered frying pan on medium heat until golden on both sides and cheese is melted or cook in a microwave on high power about 30 seconds or until cheese is melted.
6. PIZZA CRUSTS:
POM SMART tortillas make wonderful thin crust pizzas. Limit your toppings to ones without a lot of sauce or moisture and don't pile them on so that the crust stays crisp. Bake at 450°F (230°C) for 6 to 8 minutes or until crust is golden and filling is hot.
7. BREAKFAST-ON-THE-RUN:
A great way to start the day and a nice alternative to a bowl of cereal. Spread a POM tortilla with peanut butter. Top with a layer of sliced banana. Sprinkle with granola and drizzle some vanilla yogurt on top. Sweeten with a little honey if desired. Roll up and enjoy.
8. TO WARM TORTILLAS:
Warming tortillas slightly (even for a cold filling) makes rolling and folding easier and helps prevent cracking. There are several ways to do this.
- Microwave: place tortillas on a microwave-safe plate. Wrap loosely with plastic wrap and microwave on high about 10 seconds for one, or 30 seconds for four.
- Stove top: place tortilla in a large nonstick frying pan on medium-high heat. Cook until warm, about 15 seconds. Flip to warm other side, about 15 seconds.
- Oven: wrap tortillas in aluminum foil and bake at 350°F (180°C) for 5 to 10 minutes or until warm. This method is best when warming more than 4 tortillas at a time.
